The construction site is located in the centre of Nagymaros, on the site of the Art Nouveau style primary school, which was formed by the consolidation of 4 plots.
The height difference between the school's courtyard level and the adjacent upper street is 8 m. The gymnasium, which is to be built as a separate building, will be sunk into this steeply sloping terrain. The playing field will be perpendicular to the school as well as to the upper street.
A parallel installation would be better considering sunlight exposure, but it would not fit in the limited space available. The disadvantage from the lack of sun exposure is mitigated byroof light on the west side and the grid wall of the the covered ramp on the east side, which acts as a porch in front of the house. In addition to this, due to the terrain slope, the parts of the two long sides above the ground level are also open. Its projecting east façade faces the school's west façade, enclosing an interior flat schoolyard. The entrance to the building is also on this side.
The gymnasium has a green roof. The roof of the playing field, with its high ceilings, is the most prominent feature of the site, above which an outdoor cage court will be constructed, further extending the school sports facilities and complementing the small schoolyard.
Additional features (changing rooms, changing rooms, storerooms, etc.) will be located under the garden terraces on either side of the playing field block. The south terrace staircase will provide access to the gym gallery, which will have its own separate entrance.
The building is thus built like a retaining wall into the terraced new school garden. The façade materials of the projecting parts are also adapted to this, with largely natural stone wall and retaining wall cladding, built with polished raw concrete finishes and canopies, complemented by timber frames with lattice in front of the openings and at the porch.
